Established in 2009, Active Learning Sports is a family run company that specialises in bringing a variety of sports activities to both primary school children and early teens. ALS is also proud to have supported children with Special Educational Needs as part of a youth club support network run by Staffordshire County Council.
In 2009, I started the company with a vision to improve the variety and quality of physical education within the school day and out of school hours for children and share my passion for sport.
Since then, the company has evolved and now employs a collection of skilled coaches including qualified teachers and teaching assistants who share my passion for inspiring children to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
From childhood, sport has been a huge part of my life. My career in sport began at a young age as I was fortunate enough to be invited to play football for Walsall and Aston Villa football club youth academies.
Following this, I was determined to follow my dream of becoming a qualified fitness coach and personal trainer. To do this, I gained qualifications in a variety of sports such as swimming, handball, football, gymnastics, tennis, rugby and biking.
I used the knowledge I had gained to work as an independent coach for several years but as I could see the demand for quality, out of school provision was growing, I decided to start my own company- Active Learning Sports.
For the first two years, the company provided a cluster of 10 different schools in the Walsall and Bloxwich area with PE, holiday camps and extracurricular sports. From this, the company has grown to provide these services to schools in Streetly, Lichfield, Burton on Trent and Birmingham.
Currently, we host the largest of our holiday camps at the ‘Oustanding’ Shobnall Primary School in Burton- on-Trent where I also work as a PE teacher and coach. This camp has been extremely well attended by children from all over Burton.
The camp runs throughout most school holidays and uses both the indoor and outdoor facilities. A typical day would see children having the opportunity to try out sports like handball and dodgeball, take part in games such as capture the flag and Olympic style games or maybe try out street dance, nerf wars, Zorb Football and parachute games.
